My name is Felicia Darris. I was born a noble vampire; sworn to gain the trust of the human world. My parents were fighters; messengers of the true vampire lord himself. They lived a normal life for the most part; feeding on that of animals. Me? I craved for humans. The thirst of seeing them day after day, trying to fit in. More than anything, I wanted to devour their empty-greedy souls.

I went to Garmton high. I took up cheerleading as a way to get in with the so-called “popular crowd”. Nobody ever seemed to keep my interest; nobody except that Lycan boy.

He had no idea what he even was. I sensed it; I sensed it from the moment I met him. His long, brown curly hair. Those soft brown eyes. The way he just let everybody push him around. He was perfect. Perfect for my lure.

That was until he started getting involved with Corona. Corona was the misfit of the school, they say her family died in a suicide murder case. I say it was just a cry for attention. A cry for help. The day she disappeared was the greatest day in my life.

My boy got the nickname Fluffy, mainly because of his fluffy hair. So many times I enjoyed seducing him, yet each time I couldn’t ever bring myself to bite him. Mainly because he had no idea what he was. I could smell it though. His bloodline was the purest of form; his scent unlike any other. I was attracted to him purely out of lust, and at the same token, out of hunger.

I never loved him. He was my puppet; my toy. He would drop to my feet and obey me just as a good dog would do. It all changed though. It changed after he was exiled; exiled from being exposed. Exiled for being a Lycan. From there, everything went downhill.

My plan was to somehow gain access into the Lycan ways. I was also a messenger for the great vampire lord himself. Such a reward and deed, would be breaking through to our mortal enemies; the Lycan.

As a vampire, we serve the rule under the Liche. We are a form of the undead. Our enemies are the mortals, which are the Lycan, which serve under the rule of the Keres. I was lucky that my family has been able to blend so much. To gain the trust of our enemies to lure them into our trap.

Yet that dreaded bitch Corona; how she corrupted him. She stole the only thing I ever had; the only key to the truth of the Lycan world. She stole my chance at freedom.

I recall our meeting perfectly. That night…

“Dear night mother. I pray to you tonight, to help me. Help me find my way; help us all out. I’m confused; I don’t know where to turn. I’m worried about him; he’s taking the infection hard. I pray for you to help him, find it in your heart to help him overcome his addiction…” The moonlight shimmered amongst her semi-long brown hair, as she knelt down and bowed her head.

The night mother; a messenger to help guide those whom are lost. Corona prayed her heart out, tears falling down her face collecting at her chin. She then stood up, listening to the rustling winds and brush around her. From the darkness, a lone shadow appeared.

Two bright-orange colored eyes glew as the figure grew closer. Corona watched; unafraid of what being was before her.

“Why do you pray?” the figured asked. Corona looked over then up towards the moon.

“Does it hurt to ask for help? “ She replied, the figure now showing itself.

“-Felicia? What… what are you doing here?” Corona questioned. Her eyes grew wide while Felicia smirked. Her long, blonde hair glistened in the moonlight as she opened her mouth; exposing two small fangs.

“I have come back to take what is mine.” She hissed, lashing forth towards Corona pinning her to the night mother statue. Her eyes were even brighter now, blinding Corona’s eyes.

“But I’ll have to deal with you first. I never did like you, you know. You were always a little-“ Taking her two hands, Corona pressed them up against Felicia’s face. As she pressed harder, the skin began to melt, as if it were acid. Felicia quickly pulled away, Corona now standing up staggering.

From the ground came flames; singeing Felicia’s body. It made its way up to the top of her head; obliterating her hair, leaving her with an empty scalp. Screaming in agony, Felicia put her convulsing hands on top of her head, now realizing that her hair was gone.

From the brush appeared more figures with eyes glowing. Corona kept her guard up; now unleashing another fiery fury. The figures kept a distance; Felicia now crying, eyes dull with anger and fear as she glanced over at Corona holding locks of her burnt hair.

“You fuckin bitch! You wait, you WAIT! I’ll KILL YOU! … I promise you, I will KILL you…” Felicia hissed as she retreated, the other figures following her as they vanished.

Corona just stood there; hands held up turned over as she looked at them in realization.

“What have I become?” she questioned, now looking up towards the full moon.

That was the night my thirst consumed me. My hair won’t grow back; I blame that dreaded devil Corona for the pain and misery she caused me. Just think about it, for a minute.

Think about having everything stolen away from you. Your only chance at proving your worth to the covenant, and having it all torn away from underneath you. If she just let go of that damned Lycan boy, it would have been fine.

Of course not. It couldn’t ever be that simple.

You may think that what I did that night was wrong; that attacking her while praying may have been a bit too much; but really- what has her beloved night mother done? Nothing.

Nothing, because none of that nonsense exists. I follow in the ways of my people; the vampire covenant. The one from the very start of time.

My people wern’t always the way they were. My father told me, a long time ago, that the bitterness began between the Lycan and Vampire race. That it started because the ruling of the living and dead were out of order. The Liche and Keres were in constant friction with each other, while we sided with that of the Liche, the Lycan with the Keres. My father also told me that the very first vampire was born from the absence of light; true darkness. He also said that the Lycan were born under the moonlight and the stars. In a way, they seem closely related.

That’s where I had a problem. Corona would always say, that in our roots we all at one point were united. That the Vampire and Lycan were merely the same thing; that we both were born from darkness. She also would say that the difference between that of the Keres and Liche, is only the fact that they keep the world in line; messengers from that of the mortal world, and that of the dead.

Corona. Why does she always come to my mind? Those grey, dying eyes of denial. Of falsity. I hate her.

I hate what she has done to him.

He sides by her regardless; why I won’t ever know.

His name. How nobody ever called him by his actual name. It was always “Fluffy” or “Kegan”. Why Kegan? They said it was his so-called clan name; he never verified it or denied it. What did I call him?

I called him by his real name. Skyler. Sky for short. He wasn’t ever too fond of it.

He went by many other names as well. He was both my enemy and friend; enemy by blood, friend by nature. Why did Corona have to ruin it all?

She claimed she loved him. That she would help him become even stronger. Sometimes I wonder why he even stayed with her. I would go with the obvious thought of sex, but Sky… he wasn’t like that.

LS intro idea-

Cor is running away; out of breath tripping over everything. She crosses some streets and tries to hide from demons. Gets cornered at dead end; falls down as if helpless.

Breathing. I couldn’t catch my breath. I was now the hunted; they were hiding at every corner waiting for me to mess up. The smell of smoke was gagging. The wooden architecture didn’t stand a chance against the fires ablaze. I had no weapons on me. Nothing except the backpack hung from my shoulders. My heartbeat was faster than before; adrenaline rushing as I stopped just before entering the destroyed streets.

They were hiding. I could feel it. Those beasts we only grew up hearing about. Demons. Such devastating creatures erupted from the underworld itself. Creatures of the purest of evil. Demons lived and existed for one thing and one thing only. Infection.

People would say from generation to generation Demons only lived and existed to turn humans into fighting war machines. That or humans became prisoners to the Demon race. I had no idea what I was getting myself into. What would Demons want with me?

I was a simple girl. I just wanted to get by in high school; go on to graduate and hopefully go off to college. I wanted to become something. I was sick of everybody telling me what I would never be able to do.

I wanted so bad a new beginning. A whole new start to the world. I wanted to be that free soul unafraid of the world before me. That was slim to nothing. The Demons ruled these parts. They hunted us. They condemned our souls to evil. This was the horror story I was now living.

I watched a pack of them run by. Dark red skin; glowing red eyes and black hair. They all looked the same. They were like rabid animals searching for souls to prey on. I kept my body still; holding my breath as they passed me by. Once the coast was clear I stuck my head out. I could feel something warm against my neck. I knew what that meant. They had found me.

I darted out into the ravaged streets; smoke from broken down cars clouding the air. I was quick to turn my head; seeing the creature behind me; chasing me. His horns stuck out from his head; shark and pointed as he got down on all fours like some type of animal. The buildings were still burning; I was running out of places to hide.

This village wasn’t ever beautiful. The people in it were distasteful and rude; they figured the world around them was there to hold; anything of the outside was the essence of evil. They were the evil.

It would be easy to say the Demons were doing them a favor by destroying this place. I would like to think that. I wasn’t like them though. The villagers. I was the outcast; the misfit. I was that girl who was set up for failure. I kept what friends I had close, but my enemies closer.

I made a turn to the left; leaving the Demon off guard. I bolted it down the side of two houses only to find myself cornered at a dead end. The Demon was now joined by another pack; now caving in on me. I looked up; seeing more of the glowing red eyes peering down at me. This was it. This was the end.

From their gasping jaws hung strings of saliva. Their horns all hung the same way; pointed outwards as they slowly crept their way towards me. I saw what looked like tails dragging on the ground as they took it step by step.

This feeling I felt before. My blood was at a boil. Just as they were about to lash forward; a loud screech filled the air. Everybody turned; making a clearing. The way the sun shined I could not make out what exactly was happening. I saw a shadow before me nearing closer and closer. I kept my arm over my eyes trying to shade the sun from my vision.

“Stop…” a familiar voice spoke. I heard that before. Two weeks ago. I unshielded my eyes looking at the being before me.

“Oh. It’s you, again…” he looked down at me as that medallion hung from his neck. I couldn’t ever forget that. That eight pointed silver star with the red ruby centered snug and tight. I looked up at him. Those eyes. They were red before. They had a bluish tint now. He had that same, daunting smile that he had before. His hair hung across his face; still black with red strands. It fell so perfectly; as it then came to a end at the base of his neck.

“So, I am free to go?” He shook his head as he then put his thumb and index finger under my chin.

“I wish it were that simple. You know I would really, like to let you go. Trust me, I would…” His look was rather morbid and gothic. A black shirt hung from his shoulders; exposing the fishnets that hung from his neck and short sleeves. His stomach was exposed. His chained black and red pants hung loosely; followed by large boots with exposed buckles. I couldn’t figure him out. He was good to me before. Why now?

“I have no use to you and your kind. I don’t think I would taste good at all, so…”

“We aren’t here to eat you, Corona.” I looked over; the surrounding Demon’s still salivating. It sure looked that way.

“See, I have a proposition. You seem good with reasoning. We can kill you, if you want. Or…” He spoke with laughter; as if sarcastic. He wasn’t all to convincing.

“you can fight along side us. Take your pick.” He began to circle me like a vulture. His minions waited patiently for him to make the call. I didn’t have much of a choice, did I? No, of course not.

“So you want to infect me?” I turned to watch his expression, which was rather animated.

“No, not infect you. Train you. To fight…” he stopped glaring down at me. Training to fight? It didn’t sound that bad.

I nodded. He clapped his hands as the minions around him smirked. “Perfect!” He hollered as he took the medallion from his neck and instead lifted it over my head. I could see my reflection in the gem.

“That will identify you as one of us. A Demon.” He turned as his minions began to scatter. He smirked; then turning back towards me.

It wasn’t much use arguing with Demons. Expecially where I was on the losing end. It was as if he were playing a game with me. He wasn’t demanding. It was as if he knew he had nothing to worry about.

“Why did you destroy m…”

“Humans are impurities. Once in a while, the world needs to be cleansed of such filth.”

“WHAT! I’m a Human… I’m…”

“You are different, Corona. There is something about you. I don’t know what, but…” His eyes became red again. I stepped back against the wall as he grew closer.

“You think I am afraid of you? What, a fifteen year old girl? Hah. You will understand in due time. For now; you will come with us. Is that clear?” I nodded. His expression now was more demanding; more serious. He smiled as he then ruffled my hair looking up towards the rooftops.

“Watch her with your life…” he waited as two Demon minions jumped down beside me, grabbing onto my arms. They both bowed their heads; as their master nodded as a reply.

I watched him walk away. Like that, and I committed myself to the Demon’s and their ways. I watched as my hometown was ravaged and destroyed; no sign of life in any direction. It looked like the apocalypse.

The Demon minions carried me away; down by the base that surrounded the mountain way. They moved a rather large boulder; which then exposed a hidden underground stairwell. One of them jumped down; the other one pushing me to follow. I grabbed onto the ladder; having one last look at the world I once knew.

Those days of high school. Crushing on guys and stopping at that old Garmton Café. The memories flew by so quickly; within the blink of an eye. The Demon pushed me again snapping me back into realization as I made my way down the darkened tunnel to the base. I let go; hearing the closing of the boulder above to keep the tunnel in secrecy. The walls were lit with torches; an underground dungeon.

“Lets go, human…” One of them spoke as I brushed him off my shoulder.

“I don’t understand you… what do you want with me?” They began to snort and laugh; the two of them beside me now not holding on.

“Our master tends to think otherwise. He thinks you have real potential, kid. Our master doesn’t usually keep pets, but there’s something about you…” One of them looked my way; eyes still glowing red. Both of them.

“Nyxi doesn’t usually spare survivors. Strange, really.” The other one replied. I stopped; both of them stopping as well.

“Why would you follow somebody elses orders? Don’t you get sick of being told what to do?” They both shook their heads.

“Master Nyxi gave us a place to live. He gave us food. You are a naïve child for thinking such. You have had everything handed to you, your whole life. We had to fight for our survival…” The one who spoke shook his head while the other one grabbed my arm leading me forward.

“You think my life was easy? I lived my life alone. With a temporary family taking care of me! My parents were cowards. They killed themselves… They…”

“So, you and us, we are one in the same then. Correct? You just bounce from place to place, thinking all will be right and swell, uh huh? Well, like it or not, you are apart of a brewing world… of war…” He shook his head as the other one continued.

“You have been taught, that we Demons started this. This hatred. The truth lies with your kind, not ours. Humans created the supernatural many years before you and I were born. Humans are too close-minded to understand. They don’t care. That is why Nyxi has a peculiar interest in you.”

They both dragged me down the hall as I continued to listen to their version of the story we were all taught at birth.

“You aren’t like the others, Master says. You crave exploration; understanding your existence. You want the world to chance. The world is changing. You don’t know what lies beyond your city borders and mountains, do you?” I shook my head. We were forbidden to ever even think such thoughts.

“Do you know why, they say that? They are afraid of the unknown. Of the truth. Tell me, what do you know of the human world? Tell us. Enlighten us.” They let go allowing me my free space. What could I tell them? I hated the human world.

I hated the day to day struggle of harassment; of never being good enough. I hated falling for a guy who could care less. I hated being crammed full of knowledge about this race and that race; that nothing else seemed to ever matter. Nothing. I had nothing to live for. I couldn’t afford college. I couldn’t afford anything. Nothing but the useless textbooks I carried.

“I come from a world filled with competition. Ancient disputes of our fathers and forefathers long ago. Where we wake up thinking everybody is the enemy. I think we are our own worse enemy. It is the same old cycle every day. School. Competing to see who will be taken up by the military to fight against our so-called enemies. Its sickening…” The two of them nodded; smiling.

“We will show you the truth. Nyxi doesn’t mess around. Your life wasn’t anything great back there. You want a fresh start; here it is. See the world through our eyes…” I closed my eyes. They were right.

“If anyone moves, I swear I will blow your brains.” The mall was over run with robbers and crooks by the dozen; barricaded and blocked off. The police outside called in support; everybody crouched down in fear of what to come. Everybody, except two boys.

“Can you believe this? Of all times something has to go wrong. Figures.” He was on the fifth floor; barren with nothing. It was barricaded; nobody was able to go up the escalators. He and his friend looked down at the action, wondering what to do.

“What does it matter anyways. We all go someday…” The other boy spoke, mumbling other words under his breath. His friend turned with a hasty remark.

“Sky, do you have any idea how urgent this is? People can die down there! How would you feel if-“

Gun shots fired, screams echoed through the air.

“What do you want from us?” A voice rose; Sky perked up, eyes widening.

“The Mayor. He has some unfinished business with us, if you know what I mean” One of the crooks grunted.

A loud yelp was heard four floors up at the top, what sounded like a little girl.

Sky was frantic. He hung over the edge, trying to see what was going on. He was anxious now; his friend watching as he paced back and forth trying to think of what to do.

“Let’s just think. Sort this out… there’s got to be…” Finn looked around, trying to hear where the sounds were coming from. Sky was on edge, pacing in circles.

“We have something we need to take care of first. Come on. That little girl, she needs us…” Sky looked downstairs, hesitant. He knew perfectly well Corona would take care of herself. He slightly nodded, following Finn who turned into a rather large department store. The two of them stood in the opening, listening for sounds.

The girl screamed again. Finn started running, Sky behind him. They ran through the cosmetics departments; over towards the petities and womans clothing. In silence they both fell, seeing a scared little girl in the corner, two crooks in black ski masks trying to get her to move.

One of them turned, seeing the two boys. He drew his gun; firing, missing Finn who ducked and gazing past Sky. Sky looked over at the little girl; blonde curly hair no older than four or five, tears in her eyes. He lashed forward; pinning one of the crooks to the wall now violently punching with force. Finn attacked the other one; pummeling him to the floor knocking him unconscious. Sky continued to pound his fists into the attacker; Finn now pulling him off seeing the bloody mess as the crook lay still breathing in his own pool of blood.

The two boys turned towards the little girl; Finn kneeling down to talk to her.

“Hello there! What’s your name? I’m Finn, and this is my friend, Skyler. What-”

“Those bad men took daddy! They said they are going to hurt him, really bad. Please, you have to find my daddy!” She started bawling her eyes out, Sky now leaning down to hold her. She wrapped her arms around his neck as he held her close.

“Don’t you worry. Everything will me alright. We will find your daddy…” Finn watched in shock, curious to see that Sky was actually stepping up for once. He had no idea that Sky had such a soft spot for children.

The little girl let go; Sky now whipping her eyes with his hand.

“Do you know where they took your daddy?” She nodded.

“The security office. I don’t know where that is, but-“

“Near the entrance gate. I know where that is. Sky- can you…”

“You watch her, Finn. I have something to take care of. Keep her hidden; it wont be long.” Sky waved as he darted towards the mall entrance from the store, Finn not able to say anything. He looked over at the girl, smiled. He figured he would be here awhile.

One of the crooks pointed his weapon and loaded; aiming reading to pull the trigger at the civilian questioning his motive. Before he could though, he was flat out on the ground. Sky pummeled from the loughters above, throwing the other crook to the ground; immediately knocking him unconscious. He turned over towards the civilian, giving her instructions on what to do.

More gunshots fired. This time, from what appeared to be a level below. Sky turned towards the woman in question; the target of the crooks before they were knocked out.

“You have to get these people out of here. Theres a side exit over by the pharmacy, it’s a few stores down. Get them out while you can.” He smiled, running off leaving her as she turned her head, still not believing what he was doing. For once in his life, he was taking charge. The woman did as instructed, leading the people out following the orders she was given.

Sky made his way down the stairs, sneaking over towards the security office that lay by the main entrance. He kept his back up against the wall, listening for any odd sound. He heard a bit of shuffling; one of the crooks on guard as he paced himself back and forth. Thinking of a plan, Sky looked up, seeing a vent shaft. The idea struck him, he had done this once before. He reached upwards; pushing it in and sliding as he climbed upwards.

He climed through the vent; that cold surface on his hands as he took it step by step. He passed by at least five crooks armed and angry until he made it to the interrogation room. There the mayor was, tried to a chair, one larger man in a suit with a gun pointed straightforward. There was nobody else in the room as a whiteness.

“Why do you have to involve innocent lives in this? What did-“

“Shut the fuck up.” The larger man pounded the base of the gun into the mayors face, causing his lip to bleed.

“-How does it feel to worry? To wonder if your daughter is safe? She’s in great hands…” He smiled; suddenly hearing scuffling up towards the vent. He aimed his gun and fired; everything fell silent. Just as he turned, thinking all was well, The vent gave way and Sky jumped down; a sadistic smile on his face.

The man fired again, clipping Sky’s shoulder. He didn’t budge. He pulled the trigger once more; nothing. He was out of bullets.

“I have seen a lot of shit in my life time, and by all means, guns are the least of my worries…” He watched as the man reached into his trench coat pocket; drawing out more ammunition. Before he could, he was pinned up against the wall.

“-Now when you bring a kid into it, different story…” Sky held his arm up against the neck of his opponent; watching as he tried to break free. He was five times the size of Sky, and yet he could not push him away.

“What do you know about kids? You are just a kid yourself…” The man spoke, Sky tightening his grasp.

“I know more than you need to know” He grunted, watching as the man began to turn blue.

“We can work this out. Let me go, and I will give you all the money that you-“

“You know I lost my newborn son. I watched him die in my arms. See, I have no use for sick bastards like you.” Sky completely ignored the offer, now grasping onto the mans jacket and throwing him to the floor, seeing him scurry for the gun.

“… and where do you think you are going?” Sky put his foot down on the gun. The man got to his feet trying to catch his balance. Within seconds, Sky took his right hand which suddenly became elongated claws, digging them into the chest of the man.

“How does it feel? Nice, and warm… right? See, the funny thing about you humans, you bleed….” He laughed, playing around. The man fell to his knees, trying to cover the gaping wound on his chest. The mayor watched in horror, unable to to revert his stare. Sky walked over, the mayor now starting to beg.

“Please, please don’t kill me. What are you? Who are you? Why-“

“I honestly don’t care who you are. Your daughter needs you. She asked me to find you.”

“Anabelle! She’s safe? She’s alright?” The mayor began to struggle, Sky now taking his index finger that resided still as a claw and cut the rope free. After he did so, his hands went back to normal.

“She’s safe.” Sky watched the mayor nod, looking up towards the shaft.

“Alright, let me just… figure out how…”

“Don’t bother. I’m taking out every inch of these bastards…” Sky smirked and turned away, heading towards the door. He opened it; outside five crooks with their guns pointed all at his head.

From the floor; jolts of electricity shot through every inch of their bodies before they could even move. Within seconds, they all tumbled over onto eachother, limp and motionless. The mayor watched, seeing how easily each crook fell. He took a few steps over towards Sky, curious.

“What are you?” Sky smirked.

“I wish I knew” He looked down the hallway, seeing the exit and main entrance.

“-Come on. It’s clear.” He led the mayor out, back up to the first floor which was everybody was evacuated from. Corona was standing there with Finn, the little girl beside them. At the moment she saw her father, her eyes lit up.

“DADDY! Daddy!” She ran over, the mayor doing the same. Sky watched as the two of them reunited, a smile on Finns face to see Sky was alright.

Sky walked over, taking his place beside Finn.

The little girl brought her father over, hugging Sky’s legs as he knelt down to give her a hug as well.

“Thank you so much.” She smiled, looking into his eyes. She then let go and held back onto her father, Sky now standing up.

“What you did today my boy, you are a hero…” The mall was now flooded with agents and cops; looking around ready to pick up and arrest what crooks were left. The news crew stormed on in, everybody crowding around Sky and the mayor, pushing Finn out of the way.

“I’m no hero…” He sighed. The mayor looked at him smiling.

“You saved my daughter. You saved hundreds of people… you saved me…” Sky shook his head.

“You’re right, I did. I saved you all. But yet… I couldn’t save myself…” He looked over, off towards the distance

“Boy, what do you-“

“There’s a very important person in my life. She means the world to me; she’s the reason I’m here today. I have let her down… so many times. I have said stuff that I can’t ever take back, and I have to live with that…” The mayor paused, a serene look on his face.

“-Alls I do is mess up. Screw up. And every time, I took it out on her. Yet she always forgave me. She was always there. I watched her walk away. I thought more than anything, I just wanted her to be happy. Even if that meant she was with someone else. But truth is, I’m even more miserable than ever before, and without her in my life… I’m nothing. I have nothing. Because she was my world… and still is…” Sky sighed, eyes now glazed. Finn narrowed his eyes, filling up with tears.

“So don’t call me a hero. Because I’m anything but a hero. I can’t even be a hero to the girl I love.” Everything was silent. The camera crews stepped away, still following Sky as he made his way towards Finn.

“I’m glad you are both alright. “ Sky turned away, making his way off towards the exit, Finn following. The mayor stood there, speechless, as did everyone else around him.

Corona shut her television off, hugging her pillow with tears in her eyes. She wasn’t sure what to do. She sniffled for a moment, trying to think. She had her grey sweatpants and tank top, covered by a sweatshirt. She looked over towards the door, hesitating. Giving in, she slid on a pair of plain material boots, opening the door and closing it behind her not even bothering to lock it as she headed out her building.

She made her way over towards Sky’s apartment; seeing one of his roommates exiting the building. He greeted her with a distant hello, leaving the door open so she could get in without an ID. She walked up the steps and took a left; there his apartment was. She looked around, still hesitating. Gathering up the courage, she closed her eyes and knocked on the door.

The door opened. Sky was standing there, hair a mess as if he had been awoken. The moment he saw Corona, his eyes lit up.

“Cor, what-“

“Just shut up, ok?” He nodded as she pushed him aside and walked in. She looked at his place; blankets and pillows on the couch, the television on. It was dark and dingy, only the kitchen light. She cleared her throat as she turned to face him as he ruffled his curly brown hair.

“You know, I tried to move on. I tried to go with Liam, he seemed to always treat me well. Yet everything he did, I couldn’t help it but think of you…” She turned, Sky blinking with curiosity.

“-When he played the guitar. When he sang. Even when he kissed me. I felt like he was the greatest guy in the world, yet… something wasn’t right. He’s smart, passionate… has three jobs and is going to school. Call me an idiot, but he was too perfect. I realized, I love the imperfections in my life. Like you, Sky… “ He looked around the room, then back at her. She shrugged, continuing with a rather serious tone.

“I came here because more than anything, I really just… UGH…” She clenched her fists frustrated, Sky now pushing her against a wall, staring into her deep grey eyes.

“… you don’t need to say anything. I’m the one who should be-“ She lifted up her hands and place them on his face; pulling him down to kiss him on the lips, catching him off guard. He kept her against the wall; continuing to kiss her; moving his head down to her neck nipping at her. She grunted for a moment, smiling as she dug her nails into the back of his neck as she lifted her head up in pleasure.

Alone. Starry night; no stars shine in the city alley ways. Just broken lights and mangled papers; scattered trash against the sideways. Dogs howl and bark; rats run away from human sight. She walks; hands in her jacket pockets, boots clattering along the dirty sidewalks as she sighs. She looks up towards the sky; taking a breath out, the air around her almost crystallizing from the cold. Such a dangerous area. She didn’t care. It freed her from her troubles; allowed her to find a new light.

He called her up this morning. Saying he was leaving for a few days, off with his friend. He didn’t say where. He just vanished. She replayed the events over and over in her head; trying to think of what to do; what to say or think. How she longed for adventure, something new. She couldn’t seem to ever find it.

“Hey! Hey, you!” a strong voice calls out, a shadowy figure appearing from the darkness of a side alleyway, followed by about six other members; all hooded with white masquerade masks. She turns around and listens; not a flinch of fear as the figure stepped closer.

“What do you think you are doing in a neighborhood like this? You don’t belong here…” the figured unhooded himself and took off his mask; a dark figure, chocolate colored skin, dark brown eyes. He looked back at his followers then back over at the girl.

“Did you not hear me? You don’t belong here…”

“I’m not afraid… I know…” She was rather confident; a glare in her eyes as she looked around.

“A girl dressed like you, in these parts… you wont last long…” he smirked; as she brushed her hair back.

“We will see, then…” She strut her step; boots clanking as dogs began to bark; hearing a crackling voice in almost an instance.

“GET DOWN!” the voice shattered; she dodged; gun shots now echoing through the air. The surrounding members withdrew guns from their pockets.

“-And you thought you would last! Hah! Girl, let me tell you, I-“

“Call your men off… I can handle this…” she interrupted, the masked members paused, watching as she stood in front. From across the street, what must have been to her, a rival gang, appeared into the light eyes following her up and down. She held her head up high; her grey eyes parallel with the full moon above.

The rivals grew closer; met up with their leader about fifty feet or so away. She sighed seeing that they were all of a paler color; no masks, no dark hoods. They looked like freaks; scars here and there, burn marks, wounds. She cleared her throat, the lead member pulling up a gun and pointing it right at her.

“You don’t belong here… now do you?” He spoke with an accent. Her eyes shifted towards the masked members behind her; as she then focused in on the rivals in front.

“That depends. If you are going to shoot me, then shoot me…” His eyes widened, as he clicked down and fired. The bullet hit right in the center of her forehead; her two eyes now looking upwards as if exploring the fact she was shot. Her eyes then focused back on the rivals in front, the hole within her forehead pushing the bullet out, as if acidic, the wound closing up within seconds, bullet clanking as it fell on the floor. The look of shock in the rivals eyes; everyone stepping backwards, everyone but the leader.

“What… what the hell? You should-“

Within seconds, bone like tentacle structures came from the ground; taking a hold of all the members including the leader. They struggled and gasped, yelling for help. The tentacle holding the leader she brought closer, as if sucking the life from within him.

“You should really learn who to pick your fights with…” She laughed; raising her hand as if indicating something, the bone like tentables now throwing each and ever member across the street, some into buildings, some scattered around the area. As they arouse many with broken bones, they all fled the scene. She sighed and looked at the people behind her, all of them now unhooded and unmasked.

“What the-“

“I told you. I’m not afraid…” She smiled, watching different reactions in all their eyes as they all began to back off.

“What are you?” the dark one asked; as h began to hood himself back up.

“If I knew, I wouldn’t be walking these streets, now would I?” He placed his mask back on, as if bowing. He and his members all faded back into the darkness like they appeared.

She looked back up at the sky; sighing.

“Where do I go now?” She asked as if somebody was there; hearing a rustling from one of the abandoned houses in the area. More dog noises; a faint scream as she began to follow the noise. A few houses over; boarded up doorway, broken windows. Windows just enough for her to slip on in; stepping on spare glass fragments with the heel of her boots. She could hear noises; noises that were all too familiar. Noises that bred with the full moon above.

She didn’t speak. She paced herself forward; through the condemned living room; over towards the kitchen. Old blood trails suggested something gruesome happened; the noise coming from behind the staircase; a larger creature clawing at the door as if trying to get through. As she stepped closer and paused; the creature turned towards her; eyes white. It was indeed a werewolf… just one like she had never seen before.

It had think fur around most of its body, excluding what looked like a mane on its head which went down through its back towards its tail. Black and grey; jaw dripping with saliva. It turned towards her; step by step, sniffing the air. As it grew closer, almost face-to-face, it paused. Ears perked up; it crouched down as if afraid, whimpering as it fled the scene. She looked over towards the door which was mutilated; pulling it out and flicking on the switch to the side. A dim light filled the cellar stairs.

“Hello?” she called. She could hear rustling again; step by step she walked down about ten stairs. As she turned, she saw a heavily stacked basement; old books and house wares all over the place.

“I know somebody is there…” she called again, seeing more broken glass on the floor, accidently stepping into it. She looks around; a faint figure off hiding behind an old washing machine. She wasn’t sure what exactly it was. She crept closer; able to make out it was actually a person, a male for that fact. His eyes were closed, he as breathing heavily. She looked down at his body; torn up, wounded. He had a piece of cloth around his arm; must have had some sort of wound.

“Hello…” she called. As she spoke; he perked up, eyes dilated as he blinked trying to make out what exactly she was.

“Full moon out tonight. That means-“

“What the hell are those things?” he spoke softly, taking a deep breath as if trying to move. She knelt down as if trying to help him, he pushed her away not wanting any help.

“-Please. I don’t need your pity or help… I can handle this…” he kept his hand out to prevent her from getting any closer, as he struggled to stand up. Her eyes widened as she looked over at the boy standing before her.

She couldn’t make out his eye color. He had hair just like… him. Skyler…. She shook off her head of any thoughts, seeing the boy before her. Moldy t-shirt. Torn jeans. Bruises, cuts… he looked awful.

“How long have you been down here? Were you attacked?”

“And I suppose you somehow care? Us street… nobodies… no, I wasn’t attacked. I just thought for the moment I was trippin on something… something…” he put his hand on his head as she rolled her eyes.

“So your doped up?” she spoke bitterly as he smirked.

“As if I could afford that. Do I look like the kind of guy who-“

“Actually, yes… yes you do. Could have fooled me…” she started to walk away, now a bit ticked by his attitude. He followed her upstairs, out into the living room, over towards the window.

“Well… sorry for helping. Good luck next time one of those things comes-“ She lifted one leg out the window, and then the next. He watched her as she did so, looking back, tempted to stay behind. He gave in and followed her, jumping so ungracefully staggering to get up.

“Wait! Wait…” he called for her, out of breath. She looked down at him as he kneeled over a bit, breathing heavily.

“What… what was that thing? Why is it here?” She looked around; hearing silence. He brought himself back up, she looked at his body, almost bare, arms exposed. He must have been freezing.

She took off her heavy jacket and handed it over towards him. He shook his head and refused, although admiring her rather stunning top.

“Jacket is just for style. My blood is hotter than hell, don’t worry about me.” She smiled, now throwing the jacket into his arms. It was true. As a fire elemental, her body temperate kept heat extremely well. Perhaps too well…

Six pounds; five ounces. The hospital room was dark; it was snowing outside. She layed there in that bed; oxygen running thru her nose as her eyes remained closed. Her breaths were deep and slow as the doctors and nurses scattered about. Everybody was on their way once they heard the news.

She is so beautiful. Her long brown hair falls so perfectly across her face; onto her shoulders. I sit beside her; rubbing my fingers through her hair. The blanket lies across her stomach; such trauma she had been through the past few hours.

I wish I could take back the words I said to her. We fought constantly these days. I have been so sick of her calling me an addict; I have just been snapping. I watched her slam the door shut as she left. Lucky for me, I didn’t miss this. This was my second chance. My new hope.

He was three months earlier than expected. He was perfect; not much of a problem. He welcomed this world with bright blue eyes; eyes like she has. His mother. His hair was thick; he cried moments he took his first breath. I watched as if time stood still.

She passed out just moments after. The moment sunk in when they placed him in my arms. Those eyes. That look. He closed his eyes as his little arms tucked beside him. I felt as if nothing else mattered. Just having him in my arms; my flesh and blood. What more could I ask for?

Matteo. That would be his name. She stopped talking to me weeks prior till today. Nothing I could ever do would make her happy. She didn’t want me around. She spent all her time with her other so called friends; baby shopping and what not. She never included me. I went on my own, shopping. It was near the holidays. Christmas was coming. Holidays are the time you cherish those bonds; not break them.

The nurses came back in; said that he needed to be identified. They claimed that because he was premature, he needed to be tested before he was able to return home. They recommended a good month before he would be able to do so.

I look over at her; that girl I love. I cannot help but remember those long days before we were ever here. How I chose to be with everyone but her. How I ignored her from time to time. Yet all those people whom I once had disappeared on me. After the exile. She was the only one who saw through that at the real me. She also accepted my faults and bad habits. Not once did she complain really. Until it began to rub off.

I have always been afraid of commitment. I always ran from my problems. Ever since I was little, a teenager, drugs had been my escape. They were my alternate reality. She never liked that idea. Alls I seemed to ever do was hurt her. Emotionally.

Words cannot really even describe how I feel. I love her; that is a given. Yet at the same time, how can I show her that? All that I put her through, hell and back. How could she still accept me?

How can you show the one person you love how much they mean to you after you basically ruined their whole life? I wish I knew. It was different now. We have a child involved. She swore desperately I wouldn’t be apart of its life. She didn’t want him growing up having a father addicted to drugs. I wasn’t nor have been a drug addict.

Noises were heard in the hallway. Somebody was here. The first was Finn; who peeked his head through the doorway. As he noticed her sleeping, he quietly made his way in as I stood up to greet him. To my surprise he threw his arms around me, patting me on the back.

“Congratulations, Sky!” he smiled now pulling away. For once it wasn’t awkward.

“Well? What is it? How can you keep me waiting like that?” Finn sniffled as the rest of the crew made their way into the small room. Lucky for us, it was a private room.

“Baby boy. Six pounds, five ounces.” I smiled; yet deep down wanted to cry. Cry for the fact that she didn’t want me in her life, or better yet, our sons. I saw the smiles on all of their faces; lighting up the room. More footsteps were heard; as the bulk of the gang waited patiently outside. They were here.

Angel and Keyser. I didn’t mind Keyser so much, but Angel… I hated him. He had this look in his eyes; this ghastly, deathly look. Keyser was the first to walk in, who nodded at Finn as he then turned towards me. Angel followed behind as if this was a burden for him to be here. Keyser hugged me; first time I can say he ever did that. Angel simply nodded as Keyser began to ask the same things Finn did.

I told him exactly what I told Finn. From the corner of my eyes I could see Angel eyeing her. She was still out; only the breathing of her chest moving up and down through the blankets.

“Is Cor alright?” Angel glanced back at me as I nodded.

“Yeah. She should be awake soon…” Angel nodded as if dissatisfied with my answer. Angel and Keyser were Cor’s best friends as Finn was mine. I don’t think any of us really ever got along. Cor was always the neutral one, everybody loved her. How could you not?

“When will we get to see him?” Keyser looked around as a nurse entered the room signaling everybody to follow her.

“The nursery is this way. Only five guests at a time, please.” Finn, Angel, Keyser and myself walked out of the room following the nurse. Angel remained behind; not wanting to leave.

“I’ll check him out later. I’m going to stay with Cor… incase.” I nodded as we entered the observatory. Angel. I trusted him with Cor. I know he loves her; but… her life isn’t with him. I watched all of the faces around me shine with light as the nurses within the room were taking fingerprint and toe samples.

Those little tiny feet dipped in ink. He didn’t even cry. Finn put his arm around my shoulder shaking his head back and forth a look of happiness overcoming his usual tough guy expressions.

“He’s beautiful, Sky. You did a good job on him!” He laughed for the moment Keyser now smirking.

“It’s sad how you have always been too fucked up to care about him. Cor will be a fine mother…” He turned towards me; sticking his nose up in the air.

“-I don’t blame her for wanting you out of her life. I wouldn’t want my son growing up with a drug addicted, abusive father…” He turned and walked out; the others walking in to fill the five guests. The others were my friends. The gang. We Lycans.

“I’m sorry this happened to you. If I was there, maybe things would have been different. You don’t deserve this, Corona. You don’t deserve the abuse. Why, If I didn’t think you were better off…”

“Angel…” She opened her eyes slowly; a look of surprise on Angel’s eyes. His eyes instantly glew as he pulled off his brown and green knit hat, revealing his messy long hair.

“Corona! You’re awake?” He smiled with delight as she took in a deep breath and stretched her body out.

“I have been. Well, for the past five minutes, that is. I’ve just been keeping quiet…” She smiled, as Angel was quick to step over and hug her; slightly leaning down to do so.

“Corona. Gosh I’m so glad you’re ok!” He pulled off from her giving her some space to breathe.

“How’s the baby? Is everything alright?” Her voice was concerned; yet something reassured her. Perhaps it was Angel’s calming expression.

“He’s fine. He’s in the nursery currently. Not sure exactly; your asshole boyfriend can give you the details.” He smirked; looking over at Corona who only sighed.

“You know something. I wouldn’t mind Sky so much if he just got help. He really-“

“He’s fucked up, Cor. You cannot help him if he denies it! What about that…”

“Angel, I don’t want my son growing up not knowing his father. It’s awful. I’m going to be everything my family wasn’t. Sky needs help. He can’t do this alone. He needs rehab, something. I can’t take his mood swings and his problems anymore…” She sniffled as a familiar face popped back into the room. She smiled waving; Angel now looking over at Finn who interrupted their conversation.

“Corona! Hey! Oh my gosh, he’s beautiful!” Finn walked over and knelt down to hug her; kissing her on the cheek.

“I’m so happy for you two!” He spoke into her ears as he then brought himself away and smiled. Everybody was so happy.

“Thanks, Finn…” she spoke as if hesitating; now sparking something was wrong. Finn caught it now leaning closer knowing she was lying.

“Corona… what’s wrong?” He watched as she cleared her throat; Angel listening eagerly.

“Today is a very happy day, I don’t want to ruin it. I mean gosh… I just had a baby! This is like… a miracle! I’ll be fine, Finn! You know me…” She coughed Finn realizing that her happiness was nothing but a cloak.

“Is it Sky? Mark my word, Corona if he…”

Before Finn could finish; Corona shook her head as if not wanting to hear any more. She sniffled as Keyser now entered the room listening to the already budding conversation.

Finn looked up as Keyser politely excused himself towards Corona; leaning down as if pushing Finn out of the way to hug her.

“Hey… congratulations! How you holding up?” Cor nodded as if signaling she was ok. Finn stepped back; now beside Angel who was giving him dirty looks.

“I know you are probably going to hate me when I say this, but… he looks just like him, Corona… the spitin’ image of him… “ Keyser knew he was striking something when Cor nodded as if not wanting to hear anything more.

“He does, Cor. He has your eyes though…” Finn continued; Keyser turning to glance over smiling then looking back at Cor.

“Well, I am going to go see for myself now. I haven’t even seen him yet…” Cor brought herself up; throwing the blanket off and getting to her side; ready to stand. Keyser tried to push her back, Finn beside him.

“You can’t get up yet! You just gave birth! You need to rest!” Keyser insisted, Cor pushing them both out of the way getting to her two feet.

“Oh, I am going to see my baby boy. Right now. I don’t care if I am in this stupid robe or not…” She was walking fine; everybody watched as she cracked her knuckles indicating them to show her the way.

“Since you all saw him, where to?” Finn took the lead; Corona behind him followed by Keyser. Angel remained way in the back; at first eager to go; then as he reached the door turned back and sat back down. All alone in that dark room; hands covering his face.

Corona’s face lit up as she watched her baby boy wiggle in the tiny temporary box. She put her hands on the glass; forgetting all around her. The nurse on duty looked over shocked; quick to make her way outside looking over at Corona who was invoked in a whole other world.

“Miss! You should get some rest! We will bring him to you once your ready” Corona smiled not turning her focus.

“I am ready…” She kept that same smile; not taking her eyes off him.

He looked just like his father. His hair. His curiosity. He was the liveliest baby there. He didn’t move like the others. He wasn’t whiney or crying. He just blinked his eyes. Those bright blue eyes.

“Cor, you really should sit back down… they will bring him out, don’t worry. You need to regain your strength.” Finn was guiding her away as she gently pulled her arm from him.

“I’m plenty strong enough, Finn…” She smiled now walking back towards her room; seeing that Angel was indeed gone. Vanished. She plumped herself back in her bed as Finn took the seat beside her; Keyser now leaving the room getting the hint.

“What happened, Cor? Something’s bugging you…” Finn leaned in closer, Corona shrugging.

“For the first time in my life, I made it my own duty to go meet his family… His sister hated me first time she saw my face, his youngest brother was the replica of him, and his middle brother was a sweetheart…” Finn nodded keeping his focus on Cor as she continued.

“All these years, they thought he was dead. Then here I come a long, basically telling them their son is indeed alive, and heres the child to prove it. His mother was excited. His father… it took awhile to sink in. His middle brother held me in his arms. I felt like… they were my own family. His family looked almost as bad as he does. I don’t ever remember them being like this. His father is an alcoholic. His youngest brother is into drugs. His sister is working the corners. His mother and middle brother are the only decant ones. I realized something today…” She kept her focus stoical and still; Finn blinking curious to see what she would say.

“So he came waltzing in afterwards. He was complaining, that I shouldn’t have stirred up anything between him and his family. The whole time, he was angry at the fact I contacted them. They have a right to know their grandchild and nephew! So he basically stood there, degrading me… saying none of this would have happened if I wasn’t a so called whore, if I only kept my legs closed, all that kind of… stuff. IN front of his FAMILY! His family whom he hasn’t seen in what- seven years? So I walked out… I didn’t feel like taking it. He followed me outside and continued; his brother then coming out with a knife and trying to stab everyone… so the police come out and arrest him… everybody is freaking out… I leave with our childhood friend, Nick.” Corona turned her head towards Finn whose eyes became watery.

“Then he has the nerve to act like he doesn’t remember. Finn, I am so sick… to death of him and his lies. Of his anger and hatred. He wasn’t ever like this. He makes me feel so… worthless…” Finn nudged his way on the bedside; putting his arms around Corona as she shook her head free of woes.

“I don’t want him in my life anymore. I give up. It’s not worth it. I think to myself, maybe things will get better. Maybe he can get better. He’s getting worse. Is it bad to say, I don’t even trust him around this baby?“ Finn took in a deep breath and sighed; sitting up propping Corona’s pillows trying to make her more comfortable.

“What would you do, Finn?” Finn paused for a moment; falling back sitting on the bedside thinking of how to reply.

“To be honest, I have no idea…” Finn looked away, contemplating.

“Is it worth pushing him out of my life because of fear or is it worth keeping him in my life in hope of change? I don’t know anymore. When I close my eyes, I see him. Feel him. There’s so much we have been through together.” Finn’s eyed brightened as he put his hand on her shoulder.

“Let me tell you this story. You remember that hunting trip we went on a little while back? Well we set up in the cabin, the usual unpacked for a bit. Went out, got to know the area. That first night though, I was downstairs. Lights were out, used a lanturn. From nowhere, I kid you not, this massive bear knocks me off guard. I started screaming. The thing was gnawing at me. Sky ran down as fast as he could, not once did he hesitate to put bullets in that bears head. Apparently, I stopped breathing. Everything stopped. Apparently, after CPR I was somehow conscious, ambulances took me away. If it wasn’t for Sky, I would probably be dead…”

Corona sniffled, a tear rolling down her cheek. Finn gently brushed her hair away, now holding her chin up, her watery eyes facing his.

“He’s a good guy, Cor. He just needs something to live for. Don’t… don’t push him out of your life just yet. You won’t find another guy on this planet who will love you nad look at you the way he does. Maybe he has a hard time showing it, Cor… if you heard the things he has said to me, and meant it…”

She sniffles, blinking a couple times.

“Like what?” she asked.

“Remember that fight between Liam? When he told you to leave? As you walked away, that look in his eyes. Of sorrow, of actual sorrow. Tears. That putting you, Corona over himself in hopes to make you happy was all you ever wanted. How all those times when you were off with Liam, you know how many girls he could have had? He never wanted anyone else but you. He never looked at anyone else the way he looks at you. I have been around him for a couple years now, I might not know everything about him, but I do know that he loves you more than anything. Give him a chance… a new beginning. You said you believe in second chances. What do you have to lose?”

Everything was silent for the moment. Both heads turned as Sky quietly entered the doorway, a slight smile at the sight of Corona, then moving his head down. Finn immediately stood up, exiting, but before doing so pat Sky on the shoulder.

“Don’t hold it back. And don’t mess it all up.”

Corona was now trying to whipe away the tears in hopes Sky wouldn’t realize she was somewhat crying. He took a seat beside her, awkwardly, staring at her. Eyes moving up and down from her face over towards her still somewhat bloated stomach. He did this to her…
